Frits van Eerd will not return as Jumbo’s top man

Frits van Eerd (55) will no longer return as Jumbo’s top man. The top boss of the group has been at home since he was arrested in a money laundering case. Van Eerd spent five days in jail. Hundreds of thousands of euros were found at his home.

In a press release, Jumbo announces that Van Eerd will not return as CEO of the company, regardless of the outcome of the lawsuit. Since the raid, the company has been struggling to fill the position of CEO, because a lawsuit can take a long time and Van Eerd’s image has been damaged.

In a press release, Jumbo writes on Tuesday: “Frits has come to the decision in recent months that he no longer wants to return as CEO of Jumbo, even after a positive conclusion of the money laundering case for him. He looks forward to establishing the in the coming years family-holding of the Van Eerd family. As a shareholder, he remains closely involved in important strategic developments within Jumbo.”

Ton van Veen has been appointed CEO of Jumbo with immediate effect. Van Veen, who has been working for Jumbo since 2004, was temporarily the highest boss since Van Eerd had withdrawn.

Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd becomes chairman of the Supervisory Board. She succeeds her father and founder Karel van Eerd, who passed away last December.

Frits van Eerd took a temporary step back in September 2022, because he then became part of an investigation into money laundering by the Public Prosecution Service (OM). According to the Public Prosecution Service, this money laundering was done through real estate transactions, car dealing, cash deposits and sponsorship contracts in motocross sports. There may also be VAT fraud in the car trade.
