Darter Danny Noppert and Orange goalkeeper Andries Noppert turn out to be related after all. The two Frisian World Cup participants stem from the same primal Noppert, according to research by Omrop Fryslân.
The province can’t stop having fun now that two Frisian athletes are allowed to show their skills at the highest level. Danny Noppert will start the World Cup darts in London on December 23, while namesake Andries has already played three World Cup matches with the Dutch national team in Qatar. The two also come from the same place: Joure. But oddly enough they wouldn’t be related.
That couldn’t be true, they thought at Omrop Fryslân, which started a thorough family tree research. And indeed, after some research, the two turned out to be related to each other. She is very far away. Andries and Danny are each other’s great-great-great-great-great-great-grandnephews.
They come from the same Noppert dynasty and have Jan Otten as ancestor, nine generations back. Jan Otten was the father of the brothers Hendrik and Jacob Noppert. Danny Noppert descends from Hendrik, Andries Noppert descends from Jacob. The Nopperts come from the head of Overijssel and moved to Friesland in the 18th century.
