Frisian action group still responsible for ‘theft’ Top 2000 letters: “They are now in the shed”

The mystery has been solved. The Top 2000 letters that stood in front of the Sound and Vision building were taken by New Year’s Eve association De Geitefok from the Frisian Oldeberkoop. With the removal of the letters, the association wants to draw attention to the gap between the city and the countryside.

Hof does not want to admit on Thursday that the letters were taken to Friesland. “I don’t know anything,” said chairman Jan Bart Hof of De Geitefok at the time. After NH Nieuws asked further questions, Hof said with a laugh: “It just might happen.”

Now the monkey comes out of the sleeve, Hof confirms the theft. Although it was announced a little earlier than the association wanted, the action was successful according to De Geitefok. “Although it was very intense when the police were on the doorstep,” says Hof. Because of the theft, where bystanders saw that the letters were stolen, NPO Radio 2 reported it.

After tracing the number plates, the car with which the theft was committed was associated with the New Year’s Eve association in Oldeberkoop. The association also received a complaint against it. “But luckily we solved that well.”

Letters in the barn

The Top 2000 letters are currently in Hof’s shed. Now that it is known where the letters are, he thinks there are some viewers. “I do expect some attention for the letters,” says the chairman. “From 8 p.m. tonight we have organized a press moment.”

It is tradition for the New Year’s Association to bring a striking object just before the turn of the year. They were often returned after the turn of the year. A year ago, De Geitefok was also responsible for the disappearance of André Hazes’ Lego statue, which stood on Dam Square. In the years before, the Olympic rings were taken from the Olympic Stadium.
