Friends from Egmond are developing Hoever fair into a festival: “We’ll do it ourselves!”

The Hoeverkermis kicked off today with fierce horse races through ‘the bend’ of the Heerenweg. The fifteenth edition in Egmond aan den Hoef was still uncertain, because there is no longer a pub in the village. “Then we’ll do it!” Thus Hidde van der Pol, who and his friends renamed it Zomerfestival Egmond.

Because to organize an event of four days you need sponsors and creative ideas. After weeks of hard work this afternoon around 1.30 pm the first race sounded through the village: hundreds of people watched the traditional harness racing.

But of course there is also a fair, food trucks, live music and deejays. “We want to distinguish ourselves from other fairs in the region,” said co-organizer Tom Valkering. NH Nieuws spoke with the friends who put their heads together to make this new festival happen.
