Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane met Matthew Perry just two weeks before the actor’s death.
Friendscreators of the series Marta Kauffman and David Crane sat down on November 1 CBS’s Today – program interview to remember one of its main stars Matthew Perry. The actor was found dead on Saturday, October 28, in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home.
Kauffman and Crane said that from their last conversation with Perry, they got the impression that the actress was doing well in life. The two had seen Perry two weeks before the man’s death.
– He was happy and cheerful. He didn’t seem like anything was bothering him. He was in a good life situation, which is why this feels so unfair, Kauffman said in the program.
– He seemed to be doing better than in a moment. I was so happy about it. He was in good spirits and looked good. He had stopped smoking – and yes, he was sober, she emphasized.

Kauffman said he was extremely shocked when he heard about his good friend’s death.
– To be honest, the first thing that occurred to me was to send him a text message. Then a deep sadness struck. It was hard to take in. One moment she was here happily and suddenly she is gone. He did a lot of good for this world, Kauffman said.
The program’s news anchor Hoda Kotb asked Crane why he thinks Perry said before he died that people certainly wouldn’t be surprised if the actor died. Crane reflected that Perry was keenly aware of how his journey from drug and alcohol problems to sobriety has affected people’s views of him.
However, Crane said he hopes Perry knows how much of a positive influence he had on so many.
– Sometimes I wonder how much he had internalized it, and did he find comfort in it?
Perry played the beloved Chandler Bing in the popular series. It is suspected that the actor died by drowning, but the cause of death still requires further investigations. So far, it is known that Perry’s death was not caused by an overdose of fentanyl or methamphetamine.
