The man who was shot dead in Oss on Thursday afternoon is 23-year-old Mohammed. He died on the street, twenty meters from his house, says a friend. “His father was on the back of the scooter when Mo was shot.”
While the police forensic team is still busy investigating traces on Friday morning, a 17-year-old friend of Mohammed comes to take a look. “Yesterday I was chilling with the boys in the park next door,” he begins.
Suddenly we heard shots. We ran over here and I saw Mo laying there. I looked into his eyes and I saw him sink completely. I tried to keep him with us, but I couldn’t. We wanted to resuscitate, but I have no idea how to do that.”
The teenager continues: “I have to go to school now, but I want to remember my friend here.” The boy has known Mohammed since childhood. “He was a good boy, but he really didn’t do everything right. I can’t say everything, but he wasn’t shot for nothing.”
It all happened on Thursday afternoon, in the middle of a residential area. The friend has already heard a lot about what would have happened. “He rode his scooter into the square here. His father was in the back when they were chased by a white Mercedes.” The car then stopped, according to the boy. Mohammed would have stepped down because he was called.”
Then there were several shots, at least four, maybe six. “He was hit with one bullet above his eye and two bullets went into his stomach.”
According to the friend, Mohammed was almost home. “He lives twenty meters away in the apartment. The whole neighborhood knows him, although we didn’t see him too often. Probably because he did things that we all weren’t allowed to see.”
According to the 17-year-old eyewitness, Mohammed is part of a ‘group’. Something local residents are already talking about. ”It is often restless here in the evenings, there is a lot of drugs being dealt. There are all kinds of gangs around here. That’s why I, and neighbors too, have cameras hanging,” says a neighbor across the street. The CCTV footage is now in the hands of the police.
Mohammed’s friend also talks about gangs fighting each other. “It can really get out of hand here. Because Mohammed’s group now wants to take revenge.”
This afternoon Mohammed is commemorated in the mosque in Oss.
