Cup winner VfB Friedrichshafen has taken a big step towards the first German volleyball championship since 2015. The team from Lake Constance beat the favorite defending champion Berlin Recycling Volleys in the second game of the “eternal final” 3:1 (21:25, 25:23, 25:22, 26:24) and increased to 2:0 in the final series.
In the duel between the long-term rivals for the German championship, Friedrichshafen can now secure the 14th title surprisingly early in the third game of the best-of-five series next Saturday (6:30 p.m.) in the capital. This would keep the record champions from Berlin (11 titles) at a distance. As reigning cup winners, Friedrichshafen would also win the tenth double in the club’s history.
