Fresh start for outdoor pools and campsites in Drenthe

At camping De Norgerberg, the real crowds are expected later. “Last week campers could already come here to prepare their spot,” says owner Susan van Rijswijk. “The weather was a lot better then. It’s still cold now, so there aren’t that many campers there yet.”

Nevertheless, there are many reservations at the Norger campsite. “It is very busy around Easter. In any case, we have no complaints about the number of reservations.”

Extra blanket

Bert Speelman from Drachten is one of the campers who immediately finds his place during the first opening weekend of the campsite. “I’ve been coming here for about eight years. It’s a nice, neat campsite in a beautiful environment,” he says.

The first night at the campsite was very cool, Speelman admits. “We packed an extra blanket but didn’t have to turn on the stove yet. We haven’t been shivering.”

Have a nice trip in your own country

Speelman has been camping in his own country for years. “Sometimes in Germany, but never more than 500 kilometers from our hometown,” he says. “The Netherlands is so beautiful and there are so many beautiful places that have yet to be discovered. Everyone thinks you should go abroad, but that is not the case.”

Van Rijswijk, in turn, also sees how the Dutch are increasingly staying within national borders. “During the corona period, we saw how beautiful it is in our own country.”

Tropic months

According to the campsite owner, tourists and campers prefer to go away for a few days a little more often, instead of going three weeks in a row at once. “And that is perfectly possible in the Netherlands.”

Van Rijswijk is happy that the camping season has really started again. “Now we can do what we love to do.” A cold opening weekend does little to diminish her enthusiasm. “The tropical months have started for us, and the tropical weather will follow naturally.”
