French shoe brand Clergerie files for bankruptcy

The French shoe brand Clergerie is insolvent.

The company was placed under receivership, various media, including the industry magazine WWD, reported on Tuesday. The administrator entrusted with the process now has six months to find someone who will buy the company. While the proceedings are ongoing, Clergerie’s operations will continue unchanged.

“The situation of Clergerie Group was at the time of the acquisition [Anm. d. Red.: 2020, durch die French Legacy Group] very fragile and the impact of the pandemic and the situation in Ukraine was a double shock. We’ve hit a brick wall with the drop in customers in stores, longer delivery times and delays in delivery from suppliers,” President of Clergerie’s parent company, French Legacy Group, Jerome Espinos, told WWD.

The Clergerie was founded in 1981 by Robert Clergerie. The brand bore the name of its founder until 2018 and was then only listed as a clergerie.
