French Open: Cilic wins five-set thriller against Rublev

Eight years after his triumph in New York, the Croatian Marin Cilic is increasingly aiming for another coup at a Grand Slam tournament.

The 33-year-old prevailed in his quarter-finals at the French Open against the Russian Andrey Rublev 5: 7, 6: 3, 6: 4, 3: 6, 7: 6 (10: 2).

Cilic, who played two more major finals in Wimbledon in 2017 and in Melbourne in 2018, is in the semifinals in Paris for the first time.

The only 19-year-old Dane Holger Rune and the Norwegian Casper Ruud (23) determine his opponent in the game for the final ticket in the evening.

For both it is the first quarterfinal participation in a Grand Slam.
