French Open: “A cruel end”: Schweinsteiger suffers with Zverev

The German tennis star Alexander Zverev missed the final at the French Open in Paris. The Hamburger injured himself in the semifinals against Rafael Nadal and therefore had to give up at the end of the second round. With Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Müller, two (former) football stars literally suffered.

“A cruel end to a sensational semi-final and a great tournament,” Schweinsteiger wrote on Twitter. “Get well soon,” wished his former teammate Thomas Müller. But not only the two legends of FC Bayern sympathized with Zverev.

Nadal, who won the first set in the semifinals of the French Open in a tie-break against Zverev, presented himself as a fair sportsman in Paris.

“I’m incredibly sorry for him. He played an incredible tournament,” said the clay court king and predicted: “He will win more than just a Grand Slam.”

Nadal added: “I was just with him in the small room. Seeing him cry is really a difficult moment. I hope nothing is broken.”

“You can’t compare it to anything”

Mischa Zverev can best understand his younger brother’s disappointment. “You can’t compare that to anything. If you’re as injured as Sascha is now, a piece of your life will be taken away from you for a while because you can’t run, you can’t go to the tennis court,” said the 34-year-old in his role as a TV expert at “Eurosport”.

Due to the injury-related task at 6: 7, 6: 6, Alexander Zverev will not take the top of the tennis world rankings for the time being.

According to “Eurosport”, the tennis star left the Roland-Garros facility on Friday evening with a splint around his ankle. The next few days will ultimately reveal the severity of the injury.
