French Montana was honored on Thursday (October 20) for his charity work with the “Innovator Award” from the “Pencils of Promise” Foundation. The rapper helped the US organization “Budondo Suubi Hope Health Center”, which specializes primarily in the health of young and expectant mothers, to collect a total of 226 million US dollars (almost 230 million euros). Montana began his community service after filming the music video “Unforgettable”, his biggest hit to date. He also visited the Suubi Health Center to get to know the local people better. With the #unforgettabledancechallange he drew attention to Uganda and the organization.
The organization also focuses on improving the general healthcare system. According to the health center, it offers its services to 400,000 people who otherwise would not have access to proper health care.
He wrote on Instagram: “Health care and education are a fundamental aspect of our human rights and should be available worldwide.”
In an interview he says: “PoP (Pencils of Promise) is doing pioneering work around the world to keep children in school and ensure that they can learn in a safe environment. This reminds me of my humble beginnings growing up in Morocco and not being able to speak English. Education was fundamental to me when I immigrated to the United States and began my career as an artist, which is why this work is so important to our youth.”
