French fashion exports are recovering

The latest figures from the IFM (Institut Français de la Mode) show that French fashion exports are picking up again, supporting the growth of French fashion brands.

French fashion is doing well, up 27 percent in the month of June 2022 (vs. June 2021). At the top of the ranking compiled by the IFM together with Procos, the association of specialist retailers, are Germany (with a nine percent increase in French fashion imports), Italy (+16 percent), China (+18 percent), Spain (+20 percent), and Belgium (+22 percent).

As noted by the IFM, there was also a +86 percent increase in exports to the US and a general recovery in trade with Asia: Japan bought 77 percent more French fashion, Korea 50 percent.

Sustainable and environmentally conscious fashion in Europe

In addition, a recent study by IFM and Première Vision confirms the development of the consumption of environmentally friendly fashion in Europe: in fact, two out of three Europeans say they have bought at least one sustainable fashion item in the course of the year (65.4 percent in France , 65.3 percent in Germany, 56.9 percent in Great Britain).

Moreover, style is no longer linked to the ecological dimension, it is no longer an issue: only 12 percent of French people believe that design is a barrier to buying eco-responsible clothing, according to the study. However, the coming months and the associated household decisions are likely to be difficult against the background of general inflation, in particular the exploding energy prices: everything indicates that the main challenge for consumption will be rising prices.
