Mohamed Amra, a French drug lord that stolen from a prison bus in May last year, was extradited to France on Tuesday. Two security guards were killed at his escape. After more than nine months, Amra, who was searched for by Interpol, was arrested on Saturday in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

When Amra was transported in May, his ‘liberators’ rammed into the prison bus at a toll station. They shot two security guards, managed to escape with Amra and stayed out of sight of the investigation services for nine months. The violent escape led to shocked reactions in France.

France started a large -scale search for Amra. The international police organization Interpol also issued a search message. In various countries, at least 25 people have since been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the escape of Amra and afterwards.

At the time, Amra was not seen as a major player in the criminal world and his van was not secured to the maximum. He spent a penalty of eighteen months for ‘heavy thefts’, but was also suspected of attempted murder and involvement in abductions. He would also have been involved in the murder of a drug criminal in the municipality of Le Rove, near the southern French city of Marseille. According to the French Justice, Amra introduces a drug gang into the city plagued by a drug war.
