It is a recognition of the French way of life.
Love for bread
Director of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay according to the baguette represents sharing and hospitality.
The French are proud of their baguettes. President Emmanuel Macron already in 2018 demanded the baguette to be included in the list of cultural heritage treasures.
The traditional baguette has already been protected by French law in 1993. In order to meet the criteria, the bread must contain only these four ingredients: wheat flour, water, yeast and salt. There must be no additives in the bread.
The news agency AFP reports that more than six billion baguettes are baked in France every year.
