Freitag tests circular pop-up bag rental in Berlin

The bags from Freitag are now available for rent for the first time. Together with the Berlin fashion rental Pool, the Swiss bag label is testing a bag rental offer, Friday announced on Wednesday.

One of the 200 selected unique bags on display in the temporary shop can be rented for nine euros per month. Customers can also exchange the selected model as often as they like without additional costs.

With the rental service, the “Freitag Laboratory Of Progress” (FLOP), the brand’s future projects department, is trying to understand exactly what such an offer should look like in order to meet the needs of Freitag customers, according to the statement. The brand is aware that access to products is more important than ownership, and now it is a question of testing this idea in practice. The results are evaluated after the pop-up ends in order to optimize the service for future projects.

Visually, the pop-up is reminiscent of a construction site and aims to represent one of the brand’s design principles, the beauty of imperfection. The individual bag models hang on car seat belts from an industrial ceiling. In order to remain true to the recycling concept of Freitag, the car seat belts will be dismantled after the shop is closed and processed by the brand into bag carrying straps and other components.

Friday’s pop-up bag rental is open until August 17 at Torstrasse 67 in Berlin.
