The ski crossers fight for the title at the Freestyle World Championships in Bakuriani. The medal hopes rest on the Olympic bronze medalist Daniela Maier.
Daniela Maier messed up the dress rehearsal on the Reiteralm. Nevertheless, the Olympic bronze medalist Daniela Maier is optimistic about the World Cup. “I’m having my best season so far,” said the hopeful from Urach, “I’ve been on the podium four times. Unfortunately, I had just as many failures in the quarter-finals, which annoys me a bit the speed is right.”
She has already proven that Maier can ride at the front. For another success she trusts her talismans: “Hopefully there will still be room for one or two lucky charms. At home, my family and many friends are keeping their fingers crossed.”Maier said.
Müller misses the World Cup
Skicrosser Tobias Müller missed the World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia, due to an injury. The 30-year-old from Fischen tore his cruciate ligament during the dress rehearsal in Reiteralm/Austria at the end of last week. Daniel Bohnacker is replacing Müller, who has already been on the podium twice this season.
“I’m prepared to go to the World Championships as a substitute and use it as training. Tobias Müller called me himself and said that unfortunately my knee was worse than we assumed at the Reiteralm.”, said Bohnacker. After an MRI scan, Müller was prescribed a six-week ski break.
Wilmsmann, the route is in Georgia
Florian Wilmsmann won the race in Bakuriani two years ago. “Florian Wilmsmann showed there with first place that the track suits him. Although we assume that the track will be modified a bit, we don’t expect any big surprises,” said Heli Herdt, Sports Director Skicross and Freestyle.
