Free skier and former giant slalom World Cup competitor Christophe Henry has died at the age of 39. A French athlete fell to his death while skiing on the Puntiagudo volcano in Chile.

According to the French France Bleu, Henry, nicknamed Tof, took part in a skiing trip lasting several days in Chile, which included a local skier and a guide in addition to him. He and another skier were caught in an avalanche that threw the men off the cliff to their deaths. The third person in the group was injured.

Henry was known as a daredevil who skied dangerous slopes at breakneck speed. According to the Frenchman le Dauphine, he was also a favorite of photographers because he was able to go to places in the mountains where others did not dare.

He was also useful to the guides.

– Christophe was a cheerful and open-minded man. He was always in the mountains, above the town of Chamonix. The guides often called him to ask about the snow situation in the mountains, a skiing partner Paul Edouard Millet tells France Bleu on the site.
