The price of gas is skyrocketing, causing many sports clubs to close showers in an effort to save money. But at the Zaandam Christian Football Club (ZCFC) they do just the opposite: here they open the doors for members and their families who can no longer afford the energy costs.
“We do this for members who are at a loss for water”, says board member Roland Braam. The club still has a reduced rate until March 2024 and she wants its members and their families to benefit from this. The showers are made available in the evenings and on training days.
There will not be strict controls, so that even people who have nothing to do with the club can take a hot shower. At least there are no long lines. Roland Braam thinks this is also because there is a taboo on the free showers. “It’s a difficult topic to tell that you can’t pay the bill anymore.”
Braam hopes that people will make use of the club’s offer. “Perhaps it is already being used if the youth trains so that they no longer have to do that at home.”
