Free-ranging pit bulls bite chowchow to death: owner puts animals to sleep | Veurne

AvekapelleIn Avekapelle, near Veurne, a chow chow was attacked on Friday by two pit bulls that broke loose. The dog was walking with its owner. He eventually died at the vet from his injuries.

The brutal attack took place along the railway line in the Reygaerdijkstraat in Avekapelle. Pollux, a 3-year-old chowchow, was walking with his owner when suddenly two stray pit bulls charged at them. The dogs were ecstatic and bit the chow chow on the neck. His owner started to scream, whereupon a worker came to the rescue with a shovel. He was eventually able to chase the pit bulls away.

put to sleep

Pollux was rushed to the vet by his owners. However, the injuries in his neck turned out to be too serious, so that no help could be obtained. The owners of the chow chow filed a complaint with the Spoorkin police on Saturday morning. “One of our teams visited the owner of the pit bulls during the afternoon to check whether his fence was in order,” says commissioner Jorik Debruyne. “When we arrived, the man had already put his animals to sleep. He was very impressed.”

According to the police, there were no previous biting incidents. “The pit bulls had broken out before,” said the commissioner. “Their owner had then adjusted the fence, but apparently his animals continued to find ways to escape. This case may be closed for us. The owner of the pit bulls has already taken the necessary steps. He and the chow chow owners will continue to look at how the costs are arranged.”
