Free drinks at Muziekfeest Waalwijk and visitors still get money back

Visitors to the Sterren Muziekfeest at the Plein in Waalwijk who had to deal with EventCoin’s malfunctioning payment system on Tuesday evening will receive their money back by Friday at the latest. That says Dennis Münninghoff, director of Software Society, the company behind EventCoin.

The AVROTROS event attracted a lot of visitors, who enjoyed performances by well-known Dutch artists such as Django Wagner and John de Bever under a radiant sun. In fact, everything went well, until the relatively new payment system threw a spanner in the works.

Via the app, users can buy digital coins and order drinks, which are then paid for and served with a QR code. In theory that is, because the system was cured early in the evening.

“The system has a number of major advantages that were completely canceled out by the malfunction on Tuesday evening and we are very sorry about that,” Münninghoff said on Wednesday in the radio program Afslag Zuid of Omroep Brabant.

“Users who still have coins on their app will get their money back.”

To keep the festivities going, the organization of the event decided to serve free drinks around half past eight. “We are pleased that a solution has been chosen that benefits the visitors,” says Münninghoff.

“We fully support that, because that is all that matters at such a moment. Now we are going to look for a solution together with the client. Serving free drinks does indeed cost a lot of money and we are discussing that.”

Münninghoff does not want to make any statements about what exactly went wrong and who should pay for the damage. According to the director, the system has always worked flawlessly until now.

“We are also surprised by this unfortunate event. It seems to be a combination of circumstances and we secured all kinds of data last night to investigate what exactly happened. Users who still have coins on their app will get their money back. highest priority and that will happen by Friday at the latest.”
