Despite the war of aggression waged by Russia, foreign hockey players are still playing in the KHL.

One of them is Swedish Fredrik Claesson, who doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to leave Russia. Claesson, 30, signed a two-year contract extension with CSKA Moscow, known as the Russian army club.

In Sweden, his points did not increase.

The agent of the Swedish defender, who played for the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators, among others, is Aljoša Pilkowhich Expressen reached out to comment on the contract.

– Fredrik is an ice hockey player, and TsSKA is the largest and most historic club in Europe. Fredrik is the winner. When the follow-up offer came, Fredrik decided to accept it.

Even earlier, Pilko had a different sound on the clock. Claesson moved to Moscow for this season.

– Fredrik made an agreement even before the war broke out. The situation is clear: either you play or you pay the fines to the club, Pilko explained in the fall.

Among other things, executive director of the European Hockey Clubs organization Szymon Szemberg reminded that Claesson’s salary is paid from the same fund that finances the genocide in Ukraine.

With the extension contract, Claesson’s dreams of representing the national team crumbled. The Swedish Ice Hockey Federation has ruled that Swedes playing in the KHL are not welcome in Tre Kronor.
