“Freaky Friday”: Lindsay Lohan confirms sequel

Over 20 years later there will be a sequel to the 2003 cult film. More information here.

Rumors have been circulating since 2023 that a sequel to the 2003 film “Freaky Friday” is being worked on. Now the leading actress Lindsay Lohan has said yes – the project is already in the works.

“We are both excited”

Speaking to Andy Cohen on The SiriusXM Show, Lohan confirmed the speculation and went on to say that co-star Jamie Lee Curtis would also be returning for the flick. After the news dropped, the moderator asked the 37-year-old about a possible timeline, but Lohan replied: “I won’t say that yet, I don’t want to give too much away. We’re both excited!”

Both Lohan and her now 65-year-old “Freaky Friday” colleague recently expressed their interest in a new edition of the cult film. In a 2023 New York Times anniversary article, Curtis said she “called her friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like a movie should be made.'” And Lindsay Lohan said: “Jamie and I are both open to it, so we’ll leave it to the people in charge. We would just make something that people would absolutely love.”

It is currently unknown who will direct the new edition of the body swap comedy and who will continue to be part of the cast. It is also unclear which approach was chosen for the story.
