That writes the police on Facebook. The suspected fraudster was invited to the police station in Hardenberg on Friday because money had been transferred to his account through the so-called “Friend in Need” fraud.
The victim was a 68-year-old woman from Arnhem. This woman was approached via WhatsApp by her “daughter.” In reality, this was a fraud. An amount of almost 5,000 euros was secretly funneled away. This money ended up in the suspect’s account.
A statement from him was recorded. During the conversation, however, according to the police, it appeared that due to circumstances the suspect now had a reasonable piggy bank. The suspect indicated that he would like to reimburse the amount of the damage. During the interrogation, he transferred the amount of almost 5,000 euros to the victim and indicated that he regretted what had happened.
When the detective called the victim a short time later to tell her to check her bank account, she was very emotional and happy, according to the police.
The police write on Facebook that unfortunately many of these cases do not end well and victims can “whistle their money.” That is why, according to the police, it is important to pay close attention to the senders of these types of messages and not just click on every link.
