Former NBA pro Terrence Williams has pleaded guilty to multi-million dollar insurance fraud charges. This was announced by the district attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York on Friday.
Williams is considered the mastermind behind the affair and is one of 18 former basketball players who have been charged. The verdict against Williams (35) is scheduled for January 25th.
Williams, like the other players, is said to have collected money from health insurance for medical and dental services that were never performed. The total damage is said to be more than $5 million. Williams also reportedly received at least $300,000 in bribes.
The former New Jersey Nets (now Brooklyn Nets) and Houston Rockets player has agreed to repay $2.5 million. The scams are said to have happened between 2017 and 2020.
