‘Fraud helpdesk’ scams 90-year-old woman: gold jewelry is all gone

A 90-year-old woman from Oosthuizen was defrauded of thousands of euros by a so-called bank employee at the end of September. Various gold jewelery items were also given to this ‘fraud helpdesk’. Images clearly show both the handing over of all the woman’s property and the debit card withdrawal.

The victim receives a phone call on Friday, September 29 around 4:30 p.m. Someone from supposedly the bank states that her account is not safe. That would be solved by giving him the PIN code. She does that with complete good faith.

Gold jewelry

Not much later, around 5:45 p.m., his partner is at the woman’s door on Gerrit van Heemskerkstraat. He takes her debit card with him. A little later, around 6:10 p.m., he returns for the woman’s jewelry. Including a gold ring with garnets, a gold ring with brilliants, three gold chains and various gold stud earrings. She also provides an envelope with approximately 2,000 euros in cash.

But the woman is not happy about it. She smells trouble. The 90-year-old called the police at 6:45 p.m. He informs her that she has fallen into the trap of the chatter scammers. In the meantime, the woman’s debit card has already been used at 6.43 pm at an ATM on Raadhuisstraat in Oosthuizen. That is just over a hundred meters from the woman’s home. 700 euros will be withdrawn there. Fortunately, she was quick and further transactions were prevented.

Thousands of euros

Yet she has lost all her other belongings. The value of all this would be in the thousands of euros. But she finds the emotional value that she carries with her with these personal items even more important.

The description of the boy is quite clear, also because of the good images that were made of him through a doorbell, as seen in the video above. He has a light complexion, short curly hair, is around 1.70 to 1.75 meters tall and is estimated to be in his late 20s.

In the same video we see a PIN, covering himself, withdrawing money with the captured card. The police would like to show these images in the hope that, in combination with the ring doorbell images, they may provide additional information. Tips on this matter are very welcome.
