Franziska Giffey (SPD) puts pressure on housing construction

BZ editor Stefan Peter comments on the results of the Senate retreat of the new Berlin government under Franziska Giffey (SPD).

Announcing the government’s program for the first 100 days when the first 25 days have already passed – that’s a bit strange. But at least the Senate retreat produced concrete results in addition to the usual declarations of intent and empty phrases.

Franziska Giffey had promised it, and now it’s being implemented: construction is a matter for the boss. In the future, a commission will meet every month to ensure progress in housing construction. Anyone who causes problems will be summoned.

Many Berliners should also be happy about the start of three replacement bridge constructions.

It remains to be seen whether the good mood in the red-green-red coalition that was on display on Sunday will last. Or whether the still unresolved conflict over “Deutsche Wohnen & Co. expropriating” will soon cause long faces…
