Frans was stabbed to death on Christmas night: ‘Does dad still have blue eyes?’

It started with a short love affair. Then an unwanted pregnancy followed. It ended violently during the Christmas night of 2021 in Oosterhout. Frans had to pay with his death. On Thursday, 12 years in prison was demanded against the alleged perpetrator.

Frans had been living happily with his wife in Oosterhout for ten years. With two young children they lived on the Stuifduin. Frans and his wife lived like brother and sister. And that meant that the woman, with the consent of Frans, had a relationship with Fawad R. (34) from Eindhoven.

Abortion
The woman became pregnant by the Eindhoven resident. After about four months, the relationship ended. “I have ended the relationship,” the Eindhoven resident said in court in Breda on Thursday. Because Fawad had other plans. He had to be married off. His Afghan parents found him a bride in Germany.

Fawad still paid for his ex’s abortion. But on Christmas Eve, Fawad began to grumble. He made extensive phone calls to his ex and wanted to visit. His ex said he was not welcome. “Then he panicked. That explains why he went to the house,” says his lawyer. According to the prosecutor, he was furious that night and also drunk.

Cursed and scolded
It was well past midnight when Fawad arrived that early morning of December 25th. Fawad first rang the doorbell a few times. Only after a while did Frans open the door irritated. Neighbors heard swearing and cursing and words like “asshole” and “asshole.” Fawad says he was attacked by Frans with a hammer. The wooden hammer was later found by the police.

“He wanted to hit my head with the hammer!” said Fawad. “Then I took a screwdriver. And stabbed yes.” He throws it on self-defense. “He wanted to kill me”, emphasized R. But he couldn’t explain why. “I’ve never had any problems with that man.”

The lawyer sees Fawad’s actions as self-defense. That is not punishable and that is why he asked whether the Eindhoven resident can go unpunished.

Daddy
The prosecutor said she “doesn’t believe one bit” of Fawad’s story. There was no attack with a hammer. The screwdriver is also incorrect. Experts think more of a knife. “It was Christmas Eve and the peaceful and cozy tranquility was cruelly disturbed.”

It was even more intense that the son, then 5 years old, saw his father badly injured. “He saw Dad die and asked the police: Does Dad still have blue eyes?” the officer said.

Frans was still alive after six stabs in the chest and arm. He could sit and talk to a cop. But the injuries were so severe that he died half an hour after the stabbing.

Intellectually limited
Fawad has been in custody since Christmas 2021. He was examined in the Pieter Baan Center. He cooperated fully, just like his parents. From that examination it became clear that he is mentally disabled, but has no disorder. “What happened shouldn’t have happened,” he said.

The court will rule on April 26.
