Frans Timmermans in power? Then Gerard Joling is moving abroad, he announces on television. And the supporters of GroenLinks-PvdA are not exactly sad about that…
He is the leader of the largest party on the left: Frans Timmermans. The leader of GroenLinks-PvdA wants to crack down on people with a good income. Not only does he want to levy income tax of up to 60 percent, but he also wants the wealthiest Dutch people to give 5 percent of their wealth to the state every year.
Emigrating Joling?
So after ten years you have lost about half of your wealth and that is quite a lot, according to EenVandaag reporter Joost Vullings. “It is even so much wealth tax that it erodes the tax base. In short: you reduce your capital, so that you pay less wealth tax the following year,” he says in the talk show Beau.
Gerard Joling thinks it would be extremely dangerous if we let people like Frans run the country. “I’m currently working on an apartment in Monaco,” he jokes. “I should of course have done that twenty years ago, but if Frans Timmermans comes to power with GroenLinks, I will really move.”
‘DO NOT vote left!’
If Frans comes to power, it will really be a disaster for the economy of our country, says Gerard. “Then the country will also go to hell, I can tell you and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”
What voting advice would Gerard give to the viewers of RTL 4? “Don’t vote left, let that be clear. Dear people, no. It will be a drama in this country.”
VVD voter
What does Gerard himself vote for? “I have always voted VVD, but I think that in the last years that Rutte was in power, things went so much towards D66 and the left, that it made me a little nauseous at times. Mrs. Kaag has also made a reasonable mess of it.”
That Kaag is terrible, says Gerard. “She is so driven and wanted to have her way. Now she shouts from the rooftops that it was all because she was threatened, which is also very bad, but it just didn’t work out with Mrs. Kaag. I think the lady who will do it for the VVD is a winner.”
‘Good reason!’
What do Frans Timmermans’ supporters think of Gerard’s threat to emigrate? “The very, very, very best reason to vote GroenLinks-PvdA: I just heard Gerard Joling say on TV that if Frans Timmermans comes to power, he will move to Monaco!” sneers Margot Kraneveldt, party leader PvdA Zoetermeer , on X.
Her followers, including Natasja, think this is great news: “Help Geer to Monaco, vote GroenLinks/PvdA 💚❤️!”
Lots of criticism
However, there is also a lot of criticism. “Joling is a world-class guy and he has more awareness of what is going on among people than those unworldly Timmermans. But you prefer to look down on folk singers and ordinary people,” says Ralf Sluijs, councilor of Hart voor Den Haag.
Punishing wealthy Dutch people will ultimately fall on the shoulders of the middle class, according to a certain Evert. He points out that Gerard will not be the only one to leave. “I think there are hordes of people who want to follow that example. And then all the money, on which the middle class now has to live, will leave the country.”
