Frans Timmermans doesn’t keep it dry when he talks about climate change and the consequences for his grandchildren in the talk show Tijd voor MAX. “Are you having any tears?”
They are currently in just about every TV program: the party leaders. The NPO 1 talk show Time for MAX Yesterday we had Frans Timmermans at the table, the great leader of GroenLinks and PvdA. He is very concerned about the climate and that is why the program showed an excerpt from one of his many speeches about it.
Fighting for food
In the speech in question, Frans points to his grandchildren. “An hour ago my son Marc sent me a photo of my grandson Kees, who is one year old. Kees will be 31 years old in 2050 and it is quite a thought to understand that if we succeed in this (slowing down climate change, ed.), he will live in a livable world. “
The politician continues: “He will live in a clean economy, with clean air, in peace with his environment. If we fail, and I mean within the next few years, he will be fighting with other people for water and food.”
‘Do I see tears?’
When the fragment ends, Frans remarks in the studio: “Yes, that is my motivation.”
Presenter Martine van Os wants to continue with the next question, but then she suddenly realizes that Frans is just sitting at the table crying. “Are you having any tears?”
Frans agrees that he has to cry a bit: “Well, that’s a while… Because ehhh…”
Concerns about climate
Once Frans has found the words, he indicates that he is emotional because of climate concerns. “Yes, grandchildren are so important to me and I am really very concerned about the climate and it is hardly discussed in the campaign.”
“While: if we don’t really change now and chart a different course, our children and grandchildren will have a really hard time.”
