Messe Frankfurt is sticking to the previous concept of the Frankfurt Fashion Week.
On Monday, the Premium Group surprisingly announced that the Premium and Seek trade fairs were moving back to Berlin after the Frankfurt Fashion Week was unable to establish itself due to the pandemic.
“Basically, we have no reason to fundamentally change the concept of the Frankfurt Fashion Week,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt, in an email.
Trade fair cancellations again and again
The organizers Messe Frankfurt and the Premium Group wanted to host the Frankfurt Fashion Week for the first time in summer 2021. A combination of the fashion fairs Premium, Seek, Neonyt and a number of conferences such as Fashionsustain and Fashiontech were planned at a new location with good international transport connections. New events such as The Ground or Value, where more international brands and suppliers present themselves, were also planned.
However, the trade fairs, the core of the Frankfurt Fashion Week for trade visitors, have been canceled twice so far. After announcing their move from Berlin a year and a half ago, the trade fair organizer Premium Group is now putting an end to the Frankfurt plans.
“We regret this decision and at the same time remain convinced that the holistic ecosystem of the Frankfurt Fashion Week will provide the industry and all participants with a contemporary and relevant offer,” said Schmidt on Monday. “We will be reaching out to the industry and media shortly with more information.”
Premiere planned for July
Messe Frankfurt, the city and the state of Hesse want to further promote the holistic concept of Frankfurt Fashion Week as a “one-stop solution”, according to a statement from the organizers on Monday. Trade fairs, brand presentations, runways, conferences and events throughout the city are to be “completely implemented for the first time in July 2022”. The city of Frankfurt is also demonstratively behind its fashion week.
The topics of fashion, sustainability and trade are Frankfurt topics, said Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann in a statement from the Frankfurt Fashion Week. “I have no doubts: our trade fair has the know-how to lead Fashion Week into a successful future.”
