Hertha BSC is looking for a new club president. Names for the Gegenbauer successor are circulating again and again. Now there is probably a politician in front of the candidacy.
According to a report by “Bild”, Frank Steffel, former deputy state chairman of the CDU and a member of Hertha BSC since 2010, would like to become president of the association. Accordingly, Steffel has already held talks with the chairman of the supervisory board, Klaus Brüggemann. He nominated Steffel for the presidency.
Steffel is known to be crazy about sports and has been president of the Füchse Berlin handball league team since 2005. His term of office was extended by two years last summer. According to the report, he informed the Foxes Advisory Board on Monday and thanked them for 17 years of cooperation.
This would clear the path to the capital club for the politician. If Steffel receives the most votes from the Hertha members in the by-election of the presidium on June 26th, he will be the new president. In addition to him, there are four other candidates on the list for the club’s most important post: Ingmar Pering, Kay Bernstein, Michael Baumgärtner and Marvin Brumme.
In 2001, Steffel wanted to become mayor, but Klaus Wowereit had to admit defeat. From 2009 to 2021 he was a member of the Bundestag.
