Mayor Frank Petter van Bergen op Zoom will resign from his duties in a year. He announced that on Friday. Petter has worn the chain of office for ten years. “A wonderful milestone, which I am particularly proud of.”
In his statement, the mayor indicates that it is time for something different. “I work with residents, councilors and board members with passion for the community. But at some point it is time to change course and make more room for my other interests, which I don’t have time for right now.” Petter will conduct research for the CDA scientific institute.
Parkinson’s
Earlier this year it was announced that Petter suffers from Parkinson’s disease. “My condition is fine, now that I am on medication and physiotherapy for the condition. I feel good and that’s why it’s time for the next step. But everything in due time. Then I can leave this beautiful municipality with a good feeling next year.”
