Frank de Boer in De Aftrap: ‘Say no to SB Ajax because of his son-in-law’s career’

Frank de Boer thanked him last year for a position as advisor to the Supervisory Board (RvC) at Ajax. He tells this in football talk show De Aftrap at NH Sport. De Boer did not accept the offer because he does not want to get in the way of his son-in-law, professional football referee Joey Kooij.

Inquiring with the KNVB, De Boer learned that Kooij would almost certainly not be allowed to whistle for Ajax matches for that reason. “There was a good chance that I would have done it otherwise.”

De Boer left last year after the disappointing European Championship as national coach of the Dutch national team.

‘Weak for AZ’

He received several offers in the past period, which he all rejected. Of the clubs in the Netherlands, there is one outside of Ajax for whom De Boer has a soft spot: AZ. But at the moment, he emphasizes, there is no interest in getting started as a trainer.

“My father played football at AZ. I trained there as a youth player of the North Holland youth team. It is a sober club. So you can always call,” says De Boer with a smile. The 112-time international is a guest in De Aftrap with the current national coach of the Orange Lionesses Andries Jonker.
