Frank Dane, presenter of the afternoon show on 538 and brother of Robert Jensen, likes Caroline van der Plas as prime minister. “Frans Timmermans? Ehh, no, rather not!”
Will the elections soon be a duel between Dilan Yesilgöz and Caroline van der Plas? There is a good chance that the Netherlands will have a female prime minister for the first time. “Caroline will it be normal, won’t it? In terms of timing and everything. This is Caroline’s moment, isn’t it?”, says sidekick Airen Mylene in De 538 Afternoon with Frank.
‘Frans Timmermans? No!’
Sidekick Jelte van der Goot states that many more options are possible. “Do you know what name is singing around now? We have lost him for a while in Brussels, where he has started to do very well: Frans Timmermans.”
Frank Dane, just like Gerard Joling, thinks that is a horrible option. “Ah, no! No, then we have to recycle everything here. Let’s give Caroline a call.”
Caroline doesn’t know
Caroline is not yet sure whether she wants to become prime minister, she says a little later in a telephone interview with Frank. “I find it very difficult to say now: I will be the new Prime Minister, because I am not sure about that myself. If I’m going to say that now… That still oppresses me a bit, to be honest.”
People want clarity from her, don’t they? “I totally understand how it works, so I’m going to think about it this summer and then I’m going to make a decision about it.”
Dog track
She also wants to listen carefully to her surroundings, says Caroline. “My mom doesn’t want me to do it. She says: ‘That’s a dog job, you shouldn’t do that.’”
That’s why Frank would like it, he says. “That’s it and that’s why I would love it if you would do it. I would like someone who thinks it’s a dog job. That’s what makes it strong. Just an outsider who sits there.”
Caroline: “No, that’s right. Suppose I were to do it and become it, then I would like to give it a completely different interpretation.”
Frank: “Well, please.”
What does Elisabeth say?
There is actually only one person who already knows who the new prime minister will be and that is of course TV medium Liesbeth van Dijk, the psychic stepsister of Harry Mens. “The new prime minister? Oh my gosh, jeez. Oh man. Oh, oh, oh, who’s it gonna be? Ooooo. It will come from a very unexpected angle.”
This will be a mega surprise, says Liesbeth at 538. “Really unbelievable. What no one thinks about. He is not in politics now. Not someone on behalf of the BBB.”
