Franco Foda new coach at FC Zurich

Franco Foda has found a new job less than three months after resigning as team boss of the Austrian national team.

The 56-year-old takes over the Swiss champions FC Zurich, with whom he has a contract until 2024. Foda succeeds André Breitenreiter, who switched to TSG Hoffenheim after surprisingly winning the title.

“The chemistry was right from the start and I’m convinced that we can achieve a lot together. I’m really looking forward to the new task,” said Foda.

Born in Mainz, he had already ended up in Switzerland as a player, but he only played 13 games for FC Basel in 1997.

FC Zurich won the title for the first time since 2009 last season, so Foda and FCZ are now in the second qualifying round for the Champions League.

In addition to Breitenreiter, his assistants Darius Scholtysik (assistant coach) and Fabian Sander (match analysis) also moved to Hoffenheim.
