In the final in the premier class at the Stade France, there were ugly scenes in front of the stadium gates. France’s interior minister has now identified an accomplice in the riots: the Liverpool coach.
The fan chaos before the Champions League final is said to have been caused by Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp. At least that’s what France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin claims.
He said at a press conference on Monday: “I would remind you that a few days ago the Liverpool manager called on fans to come to France without tickets.”
City offers enough space “to visit it without a ticket”
Klopp had said a few days before the final: “I really hope they all make it through somehow and create an incredible atmosphere – of course they will. That’s nice. So if you don’t get a ticket – I don’t want to invite people to Paris , but this time it’s big enough.”
The city offers enough space “to visit without a ticket and have fun. Behave yourself, but be in the best possible mood,” said Klopp. On the other hand, there can be no question of a call to storm the stadium without a ticket.
Police responded with tear gas
The Champions League final had to start 37 minutes late on Saturday at the Stade France in Paris. The reason was fan riots with the police in front of the stadium entrances. Liverpool supporters had attempted to get into the stadium without tickets. The police responded harshly, including with tear gas.
Around 2,700 Liverpool fans with regular tickets were not allowed into the arena due to the chaos. The sad result at the end of the evening was 238 injured and 105 people taken into custody.
