France requires negative corona test and mouth mask for travelers from China, Spain is also taking stricter action | Abroad

Travelers traveling from China to France must now submit a negative corona test and wear a mouth mask before they are allowed to board the plane. This was announced by the French government this evening. Spain is also taking stricter action. Our country is not taking any measures for the time being.

The test may be carried out no more than 48 hours before departure to France. Additional tests will be performed on a random basis upon arrival. The genome sequences of the positive samples will then be examined to determine whether there is a possible new virus variant.

In addition to the corona test, Spain is also satisfied with proof of full vaccination. It will soon be decided when the entry restrictions will take effect, Health Minister Carolina Darias said during a press conference.

The number of corona infections in China is rising sharply now that the main measures of the ‘zero covid policy’ have been lifted. Earlier, the United States, Italy, Japan and South Korea, among others, had already introduced or announced entry restrictions. According to British media, the United Kingdom will also follow suit.

“Fast detection of new variants”

The EU is also considering further measures. A meeting was held on Thursday. EU Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides called on countries to first review their national corona measures and adjust them if necessary.

“If a new variant of the SARS-CoV2 virus emerges – whether in China or in the EU – we must detect it early so that we can respond quickly,” Kyriakides wrote in a letter that the German news agency DPA had access to. . A crisis meeting is expected next week to discuss the further course of the situation.

China is currently experiencing a serious wave of infection. In the first three weeks of December alone, a staggering 248 million people in the country contracted the coronavirus, according to officially unconfirmed internal estimates. Scientists warn that the wave could spawn new variants, which could then find their way to other countries.
