PARIS (dpa-AFX) – In France, the cost of living rose somewhat more slowly in August. The inflation rate (HICP) determined according to European standards fell from 6.8 percent in the previous month to 6.6 percent, the statistics office Insee announced on Thursday in Paris after a second estimate. A preliminary result has been revised slightly upwards.
The statisticians explained that the slightly declining rise in prices was due to energy prices, which rose a little less than in the previous month. On the other hand, the prices for food have risen more significantly, as have the prices for industrially manufactured goods. Despite the slight decline, headline inflation remains at a high level.
