Ending the conflict between Ukraine and Russia by negotiating a peace agreement is the option preferred by various world leaders who are trying to pressure Moscow to consider that possibility now. Among these leaders is the American Joe Biden and also the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who has expressed it on French television TF1.
There, in an interview, Macron has also revealed how he thinks it could be bring Russia back to the negotiating table: offering “security guarantees”.
With Ukraine in the orbit of NATO, the Kremlin does not find it tasteful to consider having Atlantic Alliance troops on their own borders. France believes that dispel that russian fear about their security is key to unblocking hypothetical negotiations.
