Nobody at the handball foxes can really be happy about their sixth win in a row. Because in the 37:26 (23:12) in Balingen, Berlin captain Fabian Wiede (29) seriously injured his right foot.
Everything went as planned, the foxes stormed up and away from Balingen. After just 19 minutes, the Berliners lead by eight goals (14:6).
Then the fateful 22nd minute: Wiede goes up and passes a sugar pass to Max Darj, who sinks it from the circle to make it 17:8. But when landing, Wiede twists his right foot without any external influence and remains lying on the parquet in great pain.
Wiede cannot get up himself and is put on a stretcher and carried out of the hall. Füchse physio Ben Kuntz and Balingen’s team doctor Dr. Wilfried Gfrörer accompany him into the cabin. An exact diagnosis is still pending.
Small glimmer of hope: In the 45th minute, Wiede is back behind the bench and can start the return journey with the team.
The boss’s armband doesn’t seem to bring any luck to the Berlin players. Because before Wiede (currently captain), the actual Füchse captain Paul Drux (28/not expected back until February) was injured in April with a torn Achilles tendon.
The best thrower this evening is once again Mathias Gidsel with 9 hits.
