Foxes Berlin win without injured Lindberg

The Füchse Berlin have reinforced their top position in the Handball Bundesliga. In the first home game after the World Cup break, the capital city defeated HSG Wetzlar 29:25 (12:10). The Mittelhessen delivered a hard fight until the final phase.

THW Kiel climbed to second place at least until Sunday. The record champions won their home game against tail light ASV Hamm-Westfalen 40:29 (21:13).

Robert Weber started on the right wing for the Berliners. The 37-year-old Austrian was signed a few days ago for the injured Danish world champion Hans Lindberg. The left-hander wore shirt number 73, which used to be the trademark of Füchse Sport Director Stefan Kretzschmar.

Weber fit seamlessly into the team structure of the capital city and immediately took responsibility. The left-hander scored the 11:8 lead (27th minute) from the seven-meter line with nerves of steel.

Sick Mindeners cause the game to be postponed

“Incredible. It was emotional chaos,” said Weber, who scored five goals, after the game on “Sky”: “I was more excited than I’ve been in the last ten years.”

The team coached by Kiel, Filip Jicha, started the game with concentration and was particularly solid on the defensive. Circle player Petter Överby scored to make it 7:2 (9th minute), right winger Yannick Fraatz increased the lead to six goals (10:4/15th). So the one-sided game was already decided at the break. On Sunday, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen can overtake the record champions again with a home win over TVB Stuttgart.

The game between HC Erlangen and TSV GWD Minden was canceled at short notice. Since several Minden players were ill, the HBL league association agreed to relocate the game.
