On Monday evening, the foxes won 31:29 (15:13) at SC DHfK Leipzig, but had to tremble for success until the end.

Füchse Berlin have successfully started the new season of the Handball Bundesliga. The best Berlin throwers were Lasse Andersson with nine goals, as well as Mathias Gidsel (8) and Jerry Tollbring (7).

Coach Jaron Siewert had to do without injured keeper Viktor Kireev, and long-term injured captain Paul Drux was also absent.

The Berliners initially had trouble finding their way into the game offensively. Ball losses punished Leipzig immediately. And so in the first 20 minutes no team was able to pull away by more than one goal.

With increasing playing time, the foxes defense was safer and more compact. The hosts found it difficult to find open throwing positions and the Berliners were able to win more balls. After a 5:1 run, they were able to pull away (13:9), but Leipzig shortened the lead before the break.

The foxes came out of the dressing room better again and pulled away to 19:14. After that it got hectic. In the 40th minute, Mijajlo Marsenic received his third two-minute penalty and was red, just over a minute later Leipzig’s Maciej Gebala saw a straight red after a punch in the face by Gidsel.

The hosts got better through this phase and shortened to 22:23. It stayed tight until the end. With a little stupidity, the foxes finally brought the narrow victory to the finish.
