Despite the fifth win in the fifth game in the European League, Füchse Berlin didn’t want to linger long with the 30:24 home win against Skanderborg-Aarhus.

“You could tell that the last game was still in our bones and that the next top game is already casting its shadow,” said coach Jaron Siewert.

Because on Sunday the leaders of the Handball Bundesliga are expecting the German champions SC Magdeburg (2 p.m. / Sky) for the top game. And the Füchse players couldn’t completely ignore this highlight. It took the Berliners a while to find their rhythm on Tuesday evening. “Of course you have that in the back of your mind. Now the focus is fully on this game,” said Denmark international Jacob Holm.

That’s why Siewert was happy that his team didn’t stumble against the Danes. “We achieved everything we wanted. Nobody is injured and we’re going into the Magdeburg game with a positive feeling,” said the Foxes coach. Even if he might have liked to give one or the other player a break.

Just two days after the game against Magdeburg, the second leg at Skanderborg-Aarhus is increasing. “It gets a lot harder there,” said Siewert. Despite the defeat, the Danes are still hot on the heels of the Foxes in Group D and will seek revenge on Tuesday.

“It will be a highlight for them to play against us at home,” said Holm. It was therefore all the more important that the foxes earned a solid six-goal cushion. This increases the chances of winning the group.
