Handball Bundesliga club Füchse Berlin has maintained its minimal chance of achieving a place in the Champions League. On Sunday, in front of 8066 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Berliners clearly won against GWD Minden with 35:25 (18:15).
The foxes remain third in the table, two points behind THW Kiel. Best Berlin throwers were Hans Lindberg with eleven and Milos Vujovic with six goals.
The game started evenly until the foxes punished the first mistakes made by the guests with quick counterattacks. The 5:2 lead didn’t last long, however, because the Berliners then made a few mistakes and kept failing at Minden keeper Malte Semisch. After twelve minutes they were suddenly 7:8 behind.
The foxes took the lead back straight away, but were hardly able to break away. Only shortly before the break did the hosts cover better, the attack became more effective. Spectacular was Milos Vujovic’s goal to make it 13:11, who caught a long ball in the air and shot it in the goal while it was still flying.
After the change of sides, the foxes acted much more confidently. The defense closed the gaps well, and the guests kept failing at keeper Dejan Milosavljev. After about 40 minutes, the hosts had pulled away to 26:18 – the preliminary decision.
There was a drop of bitterness for the foxes, however, when national player Fabian Wiede had to be carried off twelve minutes before the end after a defensive action.
