Füchse Berlin also won their last game of the year and are leading the Handball Bundesliga into the World Cup break in January.
The Berliners won the second half of the season on Tuesday evening in front of 9,000 spectators in the sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle in the Ostderby against SC DHfK Leipzig with 28:22 (14:9). The best Berlin throwers were Hans Lindberg with ten and Mathias Gidsel with six goals.
Coach Jaron Siewert had to do without the injured regular keeper Dejan Milosavljev. In addition, pivot Mijajlo Marsenic was absent for private reasons. The hosts initially found it difficult to counter Leipzig’s aggressive cover. The guests defended at the limit and often beyond.
After about six minutes, Oskar Runnefeldt saw the red card after a hard foul on Gidsel, he was followed after 22 minutes by national player Simon Ernst after his third time penalty.
As a result, the guests were missing two important players in the center early on, which the foxes knew how to exploit. After a balanced start, they gradually separated themselves in the middle of the first half. In addition, the Leipzig failed again and again to foxes keeper Wiktor Kireyev.
After the change of sides, the foxes then made a few mistakes and technical deficiencies. In addition, the cover now also revealed some gaps in the center when Leipzig made speed. So the guests came more often to easy goals and thus back into the game.
But the foxes didn’t get nervous and in the end brought the victory to the finish with ease.
