Hans Lindberg is the new record goalscorer in the Handball Bundesliga. The Dane scored twelve goals in the 42:35 (20:15) victory of the Füchse Berlin against the penultimate GWD Minden.
With 2,907 goals, the 41-year-old overtook the previous record holder Kyung-Shin Yoon from South Korea, who had previously held the record with 2,905 goals. With the success in front of 8518 spectators in the local Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Foxes Berlin have kept their theoretical chance of reaching the Champions League.
It was obvious from the start that the hosts were trying to make amends after the surprising bankruptcy at Bergisches HC. Especially since the first leg in Minden was lost unnecessarily. The foxes immediately took the lead, acted very attentively in defence, and played very efficiently in attack. After almost nine minutes they were already 6:2 ahead.
Fans and players celebrate Lindberg
But after the 13:7 lead, a little bit of sloppiness moved into the Berlin game. In the center of the cover there was a gap or two. And Minden used that for a few simple goals. The foxes also made some ball losses. The lead before the break melted down to three goals (17:14).
That didn’t change at first, even after the break. Because Minden fought. The game was interrupted after 46 minutes and 31 seconds. The hall roared, the Berlin players celebrated as if they had just won a title. Because Hans Lindberg had just scored his 2906th goal in the Bundesliga and thus overtaken Yoon.
