The Füchse Berlin have never started a season with eight wins and 16:0 points. And the new leader in the Liqui Moly Handball Bundesliga also owes this to a man – Mathias Gidsel (24).
The Danish world champion and Olympic and World Cup MVP (most valuable player) is getting better and better with every game and is currently leading all statistics in the league. Gidsel is the best field scorer with 56 goals, he plays the most passes to goal with 39 assists, and also leads the handball performance index (HPI/players with the best performances overall).
For the Foxes, Gidsel is the player with the most minutes of ball possession and, alongside goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev, is on the floor the longest. And the star delights his fans with incredible magic goals in every game.
Gidsel is really big right now!
His parents Helle and Ole still call him “Mini” (little one).
The currently best left-handed player in the world laughs: “The nickname is left over from my childhood. I didn’t exactly have a handball stature, I was always the skinniest and quite small at first.”
Gidsel now measures 1.90 meters and is in the shape of his life: “I’m doing very well right now. No small injuries ruin my training. I feel very comfortable with the team right now.”
And Gidsel is well on his way to becoming the third Fox to become top scorer after Konrad Wilczynski (2008) and Hans Lindberg (2022). Gidsel: “But that’s not a personal goal for me. I want to win titles with the Foxes and nothing else.”
