Four suspects in the Mallorca case will be released for the time being, main suspect Sanil B. will remain detained

Four of the five suspects in the Mallorca case who are still in custody will be released for the time being. This has been decided by the Court of Appeal in Leeuwarden, after the preliminary hearing in the appeal that started last week. Main suspect Sanil B. will remain detained.

It concerns suspects Hein B., Mees T., Kaan B. and Daan van S. The court believes that the suspects may await their trial in freedom.

The young age of the suspects also plays a role and the fact that, for example, it has yet to be determined whether adult or juvenile criminal law will ultimately be used. Another factor is that the substantive handling of the case is not scheduled until the end of this year at the earliest.

The provisional release is subject to a number of conditions, such as supervision by the probation service and a no contact order with the victims.

The main suspect remains in custody

Main suspect Sanil B., who was sentenced to seven years in prison last fall, will not be released for the time being.

The court has decided that because he is suspected of five serious facts, including the manslaughter of Carlo Heuvelman.

Appeal

Last week was the first hearing in the appeal in the Mallorca case, which was brought by the suspects and the Public Prosecution Service itself. The appeal started last week with a preliminary hearing, in which the suspects and their defense indicated that they wanted to await the appeal and to suspend the pre-trial detentions.

Suspects Lukas O. and Stan F. were already free.
