There was endless wrangling in the Senate this year about the Sunday opening times in Advent, but things will obviously get a little better in 2023.
The social administration responsible for this has already published the dates: December 3rd and 17th. Shops are also allowed to open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. during Green Week (January 29) and IFA (September 3).
It is unclear whether more Sundays will follow.
The FDP had called for exceptions to the Berlinale, Christopher Street Day, the Berlin Marathon and the Carnival of Cultures.
The social administration points out: “The special regulation does not entail an obligation to keep the sales outlets open. It only gives retailers the opportunity to open on Sundays.”
